Bayern Munich v Arsenal: Gunners well priced to nick crucial away goal

The time for Arsenal to cause a huge upset away from home is almost upon us. But before they head to Sutton United for their Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round tie, they must travel to Germany to face Carlo Ancelotti’s Bayern Munich.
And they’ll be confident of doing at least one thing: scoring a crucial away goal.
You’d have to go back to September 2014 to find the last time the Gunners failed to get a goal away from home in Europe. They also head into this tie having scored in 22 of their last 23 matches in all competitions.
However, while there’s no market on offer just for Arsene Wenger’s men to score, there could be great value in the 8/11 on offer for both sides getting at least a goal each.
It’s been almost three years since Der FCB failed to score in front of their home fans in Europe.
While many are writing the Gunners off before a ball has even been kicked here, it’s worth noting the following points…
Of the previous seven meetings between the pair, Arsenal have won as many as the Bundesliga giants (3), while the Gunners managed a draw away from home back in 2014.
But, unfortunately for Wenger, Bayern are finally finding some form this season.
At the start of December, Carlo Ancelotti’s side were three points off top spot in Germany. Eight games later, they’re seven points clear, having scored 19 goals and conceded four during that time.
But even with that in mind, you’d still have to say the Gunners are slightly overpriced at 11/2 to win this fixture. That makes the north London outfit the second-least likely outfit to progress to the quarter-finals behind Leicester City, who are 7/1 to beat Sevilla.
Only Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal have beaten Bayern to nil in any competition since the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign. Can they do the same again in the Allianz Arena? It’s 12/1 for them to do just that.
Both Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil netted in that 2-0 win last season at the Emirates. While the former is unlikely to start – this is the kind of game Wenger signed Ozil for. And 15/4 says he repays his boss by scoring his fifth of the season in Europe.
Meanwhile, it’s 14/1 for the World Cup winner to score in an Arsenal win.
