AT&T Pebble Beach: DJ & Spieth favs as Bill Murray heads Celebs

Published:

The PGA Tour rolls on to the famous and popular AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM this weekend, and it’s a tournament quite unlike any other. It’s a place where your Jordan Spieths and Dustin Johnsons share fairways and bunkers with Hollywood A-Listers such as Bill Murray, Justin Timberlake and Mark Walhberg.

And then there’s the weather, which often has a say too.

The event has always been strongly connected with Hollywood fame, right back to 1937 when it began as the Bing Crosby National Pro-Amateur.

Today the California competition will see 156 professionals line-up alongside the same number of amateurs.  Each day, 52 two-man teams will take to three courses, with a cut after 54-holes.

With no Hideki Mastuyama this weekend, two-time Pebble Beach champion Dustin Johnson claims favouritism at 8/1, alongside Jordan Spieth.

Jason Day and Justin Rose are next at 12/1 and 14s respectively, but plenty will fancy former winners Phil Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker.

Four-time victor Lefty loves this contest, and is a tempting 16/1, while Snedeker has landed this event twice in the last four years.  Having been a major contender for the Farmers Insurance Open last time out, it’s hard to ignore the 36-year-old at 20s.

And we’re offering the same price about man of the moment Jon Rahm.

The Spaniard has finished in the top-50 in each of his last eight PGA events, and swept all aside to secure his first title at the Farmers Insurance.

A 16th at the Waste Management Open last time out also showed the 22-year-old is in top form right now.

But of course, this weekend isn’t just about the pros.

Bill Murray has been playing at this event for 25 years, and the legendary actor is joined by a host of celebrities.

NFL’s Aaron Rogers, Peyton Manning and Bill Belichick – fresh from Super Bowl glory – will be swapping the pigskin for lush fairways this weekend.

Justin Timberlake is another regular, while Andy Garcia, Alfonso Ribeiro and Ray Romano add to the celebrity appeal.
