Arsenal lead Tottenham in race to sign ‘new Henry’ from Monaco

Published:

The race to sign Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe, dubbed the ‘new Thierry Henry’ looks set to break out into a transfer war this summer, with a raft of European heavyweights jostling for his signature. And Arsenal and Tottenham find themselves among the frontrunners.

Monaco’s teenage sensation has helped propel them to the top of the Ligue 1 table, with the Bondy native having netted seven goals and produced six assists in the top-flight this season.

And his pace, finishing and majestic footwork have unsurprisingly alerted some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain are narrow 9/4 favourites at the head of the market, but Arsenal are now just 5/2 for his signature, leapfrogging Tottenham (3/1) in the betting, with Arsene Wenger reportedly desperate to snap up the 18-year-old.

There’s certainly reason to believe the Gunners could need a new striker, with Alexis Sanchez heavily linked with a summer exit from north London, while Lucas Perez could also leave, having struggled for gametime since joining at the start of this season.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are 5/2 to add Mbappe to their embarrassment of striking riches, with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez already on their books.

And our traders aren’t ruling out the possibility of Mbappe teaming up with another Monaco prodigy, Anthony Martial, at Manchester United.

And with the Old Trafford outfit having also brought in the likes of Patrice Evra and Radamel Falcao from Les Rouges et Blancs in previous years, the 11/2 for them to sign the teen talent could soon tumble if Jose Mourinho shows firm interest.
