Antoine Griezmann agrees deal – in principle – to join Manchester United

It’s a story which has rumbled on for the best part of three years, but now it appears that Antoine Griezmann is heading to Manchester United.

According to reports in France, the talismanic Atletico Madrid forward has agreed a deal in principle with the Red Devils.

It’s believed Griezmann’s contract would be worth £15m a year.

And with the Frenchman’s current agreement in the Spanish capital including an £85m release clause, it’s set to be one of the biggest transfers in history.

United’s 0-0 draw at home to Hull last night will only have convinced the Old Trafford bigwigs even more that a player of Griezmann’s calibre is required.

The 25-year-old is expected to claim the heralded number seven shirt, last worn by Memphis Depay.

It’s also believed that Griezmann’s relationship with international team-mate Paul Pogba has helped sway the move.

The striker began his career with Real Sociedad, before moving to Atletico in 2014.

In just two-and-a-half seasons at the Vicente Calderon, Griezmann has scored more than 70 goals in less than 140 games.

And the striker took his form onto the international stage last summer too, bagging six goals and winning the Player of the Tournament accolade as Les Blues reached the final of the European Championships.

Mourinho’s men are next in action this Sunday, when they head to reigning champions Leicester.

But with the Foxes struggling, we make United 4/6 favourites to return to winning ways this weekend.
