Aguero to Chelsea? Odds suggest a summer move is looking likely
It’s now three matches in a row in all competitions in which Sergio Aguero hasn’t started for Manchester City. And it’s three matches in which Pep Guardiola’s men have won with relative ease, too.
But it isn’t injury or suspension keeping the Argentine out of the first-team.
It’s Gabriel Jesus.
Since the Brazil international made his debut against Tottenham Hotspur, his teammate has played just 24 of a possible 270 minutes of competitive football in all competitions.
That’s led to speculation that City’s third all-time top goalscorer could be heading for an Etihad exit this summer, and there’s one side in particular whose odds have been slashed to seal a move.
Despite being an 8/1 shot for his signature last week, Chelsea have seen their odds cut to just 5s now, with our odds-compilers giving them just as much chance as Real Madrid to sign the 28-year-old when the season draws to a close.
It’s rumoured that this could be Diego Costa’s last year at Stamford Bridge, with the Spanish striker being heavily linked with a move to China.
Were that to be the case, Antonio Conte would need to bring in someone both capable and proven.
And without a doubt, Aguero ticks both of those boxes.
Guardiola has made it clear in recent weeks that he’s not Aguero’s biggest fan. Despite the two-time Premier League winner netting 18 goals in all competitions this season, his manager doesn’t think he does enough off the ball to warrant a place in the starting line-up.
With that in mind, it’s likely Aguero’s situation will be one of the most monitored of the summer, and a whole host of Europe’s elite clubs will be on red alert.
As things stand it’s Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain who lead the way at 7/2 in the race for Aguero’s signature.
But with Chelsea’s odds continuing to fall, Aguero may well leave Manchester this year, but that’s not to say he’ll leave the Premier League.
