Young, Depay & Schneiderlin: Prepare for a Man United exodus

Published:

Between them, they’ve notched up just 266 minutes of Premier League football so far this season. That’s just shy of three full games. But it looks as though Ashley Young, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin will all finally be leaving Manchester United this month.

So, with bags of ability between them, but little by way of opportunities at Old Trafford, where are we likely to see this talented trio plying their trade when the winter transfer window slams shut in February?

Ladbrokes News takes a look at the clubs rumoured to be interested in these three, assessing the likelihood of a deal going ahead.

Name: Ashley Young

Interested clubs: Watford, Crystal Palace, Everton

He may have 112 Premier League appearances to his name for the Red Devils, but Ashley Young’s experience counts for nothing with Jose Mourinho.

At least that’s how it looks.

The midfielder hasn’t featured for United since early November, and it’s no surprise to see a host of clubs declare an interest.

There’s the possibility of a reunion with his boyhood club Watford, while Crystal Palace and Everton are also thought to be on red alert.

Young would be a great signing for the Hornets, who’ve struggled for consistency so far this season. Having a cool head around Vicarage Road certainly wouldn’t be unwelcomed.

Meanwhile, new Crystal Palace boss Sam Allardyce is reportedly keen on adding the 31-year-old to his ranks, although he already has the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Jason Puncheon, Andros Townsend and Bakary Sako at his disposal.

A move to Selhurst Park would likely see England international Young struggle for game-time yet again.

And while Man United have history of doing business with Everton, a move for Young may be seen as a step in the wrong direction for the Toffees by supporters.

Instead, they’d be much more interested in another name on our list…

Name: Memphis Depay

Interested clubs: Everton

This is more like it.

Despite failing to settle at Old Trafford under former manager Louis van Gaal or current boss Jose Mourinho, there’s no doubting the fact that this boy is talented.

And it may well be his compatriot Ronald Koeman who takes Depay away from Manchester.

The 22-year-old Netherlands international netted a staggering 28 goals from out wide in his last season with PSV Eindhoven before securing a £31m switch to United.

And while that was a huge figure to part with, it’s unlikely the Red Devils would demand a similar fee for a man who is so clearly surplus to requirements.

It looks set to be a busy transfer window for the Toffees. But if they get this deal over the line, it’ll certainly take some beating.

Name: Morgan Schneiderlin

Interest clubs: Everton, West Brom

Yep, that’s yet another United player linked with a move to Goodison Park.

This one holds even more weight though, given that Koeman and Schneiderlin worked together at Southampton for a season.

However, it’s a move to the West Midlands which looks more likely to take place for the France international, with West Brom reportedly willing to pay in excess of £20m for Schneiderlin’s services.

No strangers to a deal with the Red Devils themselves, the Baggies have signed the likes of Darren Fletcher and Jonny Evans from the north-west outfit in recent years.

Will Schneiderlin be the next name to join that list?

Well, United are clearly happy to sell him, and Tony Pulis’ transfer budget has been boosted following a recent takeover.

That tells us this one may well go ahead this month.
