Why Chelsea-Swansea swap deal would be perfect for both parties

Published:

It’s not every day that you see Chelsea and Swansea linked with player swaps, but that’s a position we find ourselves in this transfer window, with Michy Batshuayi and Fernando Llorente linked with moves away from their current clubs.

The Blues are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League, while the Swans sit dangerously in 19th place.

And despite the aforementioned names having managed just seven top-flight goals in 29 games combined, Ladbrokes News takes a look at why a move would be beneficial for all parties.

Michy Batshuayi

Such has been the blistering start that the Belgium international’s teammate Diego Costa has enjoyed to the season, it’s been difficult for the summer signing to get a look in at Stamford Bridge thus far.

At 23, time is still very much on Batshuayi’s side, although it’s likely he’ll have to seek pastures new if he’s to establish himself as one of the division’s most deadly strikers.

And the South Wales outfit are certainly a club that could do with a player of his quality.

Their current crop of players like to play at a fast pace, exploiting the speed of wingers Jefferson Montero, Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge.

That’s exactly the kind of style which would suit Batshuayi’s game down to the ground, and it’s likely he’d have the same kind of impact as Wilfried Bony did during his time at the Liberty Stadium.

There were always going to be question marks surrounding the youngster’s big money move back in the summer. And while he’s seen little in the way of first-team opportunities with the Blues, a move to Swansea could be the perfect chance for him to prove himself, while gaining vital Premier League experience.

It’s not yet clear whether a potential deal would be temporary or permanent. But even if it was the latter, the Belgian can follow in Nemanja Matic and David Luiz’s footsteps in recent years. Both left Stamford Bridge before returning as crucial first-team players.

Fernando Llorente

It’s fair to say plenty of eyebrows were raised when Llorente swapped Sevilla for Swansea back in August.

And while he’s been a shining light in an otherwise frustrating first-half of the campaign, there’s every chance the former Spain international will leave the club this month – especially given that Antonio Conte is reportedly keen.

The Italian would certainly know how to get the best out of the 31-year-old too, having done exactly that when the pair worked together at Juventus.

While it’s unlikely the former Athletic Bilbao man would force his way ahead of Costa in the Chelsea pecking order, there’s no doubting the Premier League favourites would benefit from his presence.

Llorente’s best years may well be behind him, while Batshuayi’s are still to come. But if we’re talking about the here and now, then it’s the former who would be more effective for the Blues for the remainder of the season.

With six goals already to his name in the Premier League, it’s clear he’s already taken to the division.

And he could play a huge role in the title race, should he make the switch to Stamford Bridge.

What do fans think? Would all parties benefit from this move, or would either side be sold short?
