West Brom and Swansea lead chase for Leicester’s Ulloa

Published:

The January deadline is less than two weeks away, but the future of Leicester striker Leonardo Ulloa remains far from certain.

After playing a key role in winning the Premier League last season, Ulloa has since seen the Foxes bring in Islam Slimani and Ahmed Musa.

Reduced to a bit-part role, Ulloa has appeared in six different competitions for Claudio Ranieri this term.

And despite making 12 appearances in the Premier League, the Argentine striker is averaging just 20 minutes of game-time.

But there are a number of clubs who could utilise the former Brighton star’s talents.

West Brom and Swansea are the frontrunners at 4/1, although the two clubs are in very differing situations right now.

You’d have to suggest the Baggies – sitting eighth in the table – would edge that battle, especially given Ulloa wouldn’t necessarily need to relocate.

Crystal Palace and Sunderland are next up at 5s.

Sam Allardyce is still plotting a number of arrivals for the Eagles before January is over, so it remains to be seen if Ulloa is one of them. That may depend on the future of Christian Benteke.

As for Sunderland, it seems inconceivable that they can stay up once again through the heroics of Jermain Defoe.

Ulloa would doubtless be welcome on Wearside, with just three players netting more than a single Premier League goal for the Black Cats this season.

And the outsiders are relegation embattled Hull at 6s.

With Mike Phelan leaving the Tigers after a disagreement over transfers, it seems unlikely that new boss Marco Silva will be given much assistance in the transfer market.

But for someone, there is a Premier League winner ready and waiting to get back into regular first-team football.
