Tottenham v Aston Villa: Spurs set to make light work of visitors

Published:

These are heady days at White Hart Lane, with Tottenham winning their last five games and ending Chelsea’s winning run in spectacular fashion on Wednesday night. And they look certain to continue that momentum as Aston Villa visit in the Emirates FA Cup.

Spurs have netted an impressive 15 goals during their last five games, and look likely to notch up several more against a Villa side whose away form leaves a lot to be desired.

The visitors have won just two of 14 games on the road this term, losing seven times – including a humbling defeat at the hands of League Two Luton Town in the EFL Cup.

In fact, they’ve actually failed to score in half of their away games this season, meaning the White Hart Lane faithful could well see their side win to nil at Evens.

Their visitors’ struggles are sure to encourage Mauricio Pochettino’s men, as will Spurs’ record in this particular fixture. The last 14 meetings have produced 11 wins for Tottenham, with three draws and just a solitary victory for the Villans.

That domination showed no sign of letting up last season, with the north London outfit winning both meetings by a two-goal margin – and they head into this clash with the Premier League’s most in-form player, Dele Alli.

His brace against Chelsea means the 20-year-old has now found the net twice in each of his last three games, taking his total to seven in four.

So it’s a real surprise to see him priced at odds-against to net anytime here (11/10), while the 5/1 for the former MK Dons ace to score two or more goals also looks generously priced.

With all that in mind, Tottenham could see off Steve Bruce’s men well before the end of this contest. Having led at half-time in five of their last six victories, that means the 17/20 for HT/FT: Tottenham/Tottenham should prove popular.

In the match betting, Spurs are 3/10 favourites to progress this weekend, with 9/1 for a Villa victory and 17/4 on offer for this tie to reach a replay.
