Sheffield Wednesday odds-on to bring Barnsley ace to Hillsborough

Sam Winnall looks to be on the verge of an eye-catching switch between South Yorkshire rivals, with the Barnsley hitman now priced at just 10/11 to join promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has netted 11 times in 22 Championship outings so far this season, after helping the Tykes win promotion from League One last term, finishing as the division’s third-highest scorer in the process.

Robust, skilful and an excellent finisher, the Wolverhampton native has unsurprisingly attracted a number of clubs in this window.

And while Wednesday’s £500k bid for the player yesterday saw them move to odds-on, they face stiff competition for his signature – especially from another Yorkshire giant.

It’s 7/2 for the prolific hitman to join Leeds United this month, with Whites boss Garry Monk reportedly keen to add firepower as his side look to close in on the automatic promotion spots.

Meanwhile, 5/1 says he joins Huddersfield Town, with the same odds on offer for a move to Brentford – though that price could quickly tumble if the Bees part with the much sought-after Scott Hogan in the coming days.

Middlesbrough round out the betting at 10s, with Aitor Karanka’s men the only Premier League club in the picture right now.

Next up for Wednesday is the visit of Huddersfield on Saturday, with 13/10 for Carlos Carvalhal’s men to enjoy victory.
