Saturday’s Racing Tips: King can rule in the Lanzarote Hurdle
Cross your fingers and toes and let’s all hope the cold snap doesn’t claim this Saturday’s cracking card at Kempton. Or the one at Warwick for that matter.
Like the ITV Racing cameras, that’s where we’re hoping to go with the Lanzarote Hurdle and the Classic Chase the respective highlights in Surrey and the West Midlands.
Both of those contests are offering up plenty of value and we couldn’t wait to get stuck in.
Here are our best bets for the action…
Team Vaniteux or Team Vibrato Valtat? Nicky Henderson or Paul Nicholls? That’s how this one looks likely to pan out and we’re siding with the former.
Vibrato Valtat was well beaten in the Tingle Creek last time out and hasn’t really sparked since his Haldon Gold Cup victory in November 2015.
Both have some questions to answer over this trip but Vaniteux has previously stayed this distance over hurdles and he’s our pick to get back into the winner’s enclosure.
Venetia Williams took last year’s Lanzarote Hurdle with Yala Enki and she’s got a fantastic chance of recording back-to-back victories with Bennys King.
The progressive six-year-old got off the mark at Uttoxeter on New Year’s Eve and he can continue to shine here.
Ben Pauling’s Jaleo looks a danger, especially with claimer Alex Ferguson onboard, while unbeaten Doesyourdogbite deserves respect.
But each of the nine previous winners have landed a hurdle race containing 10+ runners and that also brings into contention our selection.
Tom Symonds’ Kaki De La Pree is a very consistent type, having finished in the first three on each of his previous six starts over fences.
His sole victory in that sequence has come at a left-handed track, he’s not carrying too much weight and he has exactly the sort of profile we’re looking for.
Punters obviously think the 10-year-old is a good thing too given the strong market support the French-bred charge has enjoyed in recent days.
