R-Fed favourite after Murray’s Ozzie exit, but we’re backing Wawrinka

It’s official, ladies and gentlemen – (soon-to-be Sir) Andy Murray is human.
2016 may have been his year, but the current world number one was the latest in a seemingly ever-growing list of elite players to find themselves being knocked out of this year’s Australian Open.
But even with that being said, there are still a number of household names ready to battle it out for Novak Djokovic’s title.
And as things stand, it’s fan-favourite Roger Federer who leads the way in the market to claim his fifth major Down Under.
R-Fed is 3/1 to go all the way after victories over Jurgen Melzer, Noah Rubin, Tomas Berdych and Kei Nishikori.
But our main concern over the former world number one is can he sustain such performances over five sets against the likes of Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic?
It’s the former who we fancy for the title, having already done the business in Australia back in 2014.
In fact, Wawrinka is the only player in the last six years other than Djokivic to win this trophy – and we think that’ll give him the upper hand here, especially given that the top two in the world are now out.
That makes the 7/2 on offer for the 31-year-old cracking value.
He’ll face stiff competition from Milos Raonic though, who is 4/1 to go all the way.
The world number three has breezed through his opening three matches, dropping just one set in the process.
The Canadian is up against Roberto Bautista-Agut in the fourth round, where victory over the Spaniard will likely see his odds fall further.
And having lost out to Andy Murray in last year’s semi-finals, we’d hardly be surprised to see the 26-year-old go at least one further this time out and claim his first ever Grand Slam.
