Our traders aren’t ruling out a Pogba-esque Depay-Man United reunion

He may have only just left Manchester United to join Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, but our traders are already pricing up a potential return to Old Trafford for Memphis Depay.

It’s just 3/1 that the forward steps onto a field in a United shirt again in his career.

And you’d have to admit those are incredibly short odds considering the 22-year-old has played just 20 minutes of Premier League football for the Red Devils since the season began.

Perhaps one reason the 13-time Premier League champions are considered to have a strong chance of resigning the former Ajax man is because of a clause in his contract.

Though French footballing laws don’t allow clubs the luxury of buying players back, United will have to be notified should Lyon decide to sell Depay on in the future. From there, the English giants will have first choice on whether to bring him back or not.

So a solid few years in France could see the youngster return to Old Trafford in Pogba-esque fashion.

Having signed the Netherlands international for a fee of £29m in the summer of 2015, he never lived up to his potential, despite being handed several opportunities by former boss Louis van Gaal.

Eventually, the Dutch boss lost patience with the winger, and gave him just four starts in the second-half of the season.

Depay then fell even further down the pecking order when Van Gaal left at the end of last season.

The emergence of Marcus Rashford, coupled with the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan left Depay out in the cold, but perhaps a fresh start with Lyon could go some way towards the midfielder eventually coming back and proving his doubters wrong.

What do fans think about the news of Depay’s exit? Were United wrong to allow him to leave, and would you take him back?
