Liverpool look for January boost by targeting Juventus whizz-kid

All the transfer talk surrounding Liverpool right now seems to be centred around Barcelona’s reported interest in Adam Lallana. But we could actually see an addition to the Reds’ midfield ranks in the coming days, in the form of Francesco Cassata.

Jurgen Klopp is believed to be preparing a £9m bid for the 19-year-old midfielder, who is on the books of Italian giants Juventus, but currently impressing on loan at Serie B outfit Ascoli.

The teenager has featured 19 times for Picchio this season, and it’s fair to say he’s adapted brilliantly to senior football, scoring on his debut away at Pro Vercelli, while he’s also set up a few goals for his current employers.

Having also impressed for Italy at every youth level up to under-20, there’s little doubt he’s considered one of the hottest prospects in the country right now – and Klopp could be very wise to snap the player up this month, before more excellent displays boost his price tag.

For the player’s part, there’s little chance of him breaking into the Juve first-team in the near future, with the likes of Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic all battling for a spot in Max Allegri’s starting XI.

That means he’d likely have a better chance of first-team football at Anfield, especially if Lallana heads to the Nou Camp in this window – a move currently priced up at 5/1.

Up next for Liverpool is a mammoth clash at Manchester United, with 13/5 for the Reds to enjoy a first win in four visits to Old Trafford.
