Guardiola still odds-on to win a Premier League title with Man City

Being manager of one of the biggest clubs in the country must be incredibly stressful. And up until yesterday evening, Pep Guardiola was doing a fine job of hiding the strain.

Uncharacteristically tetchy in his post-match interview and press conference, the Manchester City boss sent the football world into meltdown, announcing that he felt he was approaching the end of his coaching career.

But our traders reckon there’s still life in the relatively young dog yet, and 1/2 says the Citizens win a Premier League title under the watchful eye of Pep.

However, those of you that reckon he’ll be gone before City win their third Prem trophy can get odds of 6/4.

Having started the season in blistering form, winning their first 10 matches in all competitions, the Manchester outfit have stumbled somewhat of late.

And instead of finding themselves firmly in a title race, they’re now clinging onto a Champions League spot by the skin of their teeth.

That’s not a position Guardiola has often found himself in, and recent events suggest it’s taking its toll on the Spaniard.

The odds are still very much in City’s favour in terms of finishing the season in the top four, with 1/4 saying they do exactly that.

But they could find themselves chasing that position in the coming weeks, with Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal all finding form, while Chelsea and Liverpool remain in first and second place respectively.

Failure to finish in that top quartet would certainly be seen as a step backwards at the Etihad, and could result in Guardiola being sacked for the first time ever in his managerial career.

And with 6/1 on offer for the Citizens to have a new boss in charge on the opening day of the 2017-18 campaign, we’re certainly not ruling out a shock dismissal in the coming months.

Ladbrokes News’ Alex Apati said: “It’s hardly been all fun and games for Guardiola since he arrived at the Etihad, but the latest odds suggest the Spaniard can turn things around before waving goodbye to the Prem.”
