Future looks bright for Everton after stunning Man City win

Everton produced the best performance of their season so far, as they handed Pep Guardiola his joint-worst defeat in management with a sublime 4-0 victory.

Ronald Koeman’s men contained Pep’s big-money Citizens, and produced a clinical display in front of goal to hand former Toffee John Stones a miserable return to Goodison Park.

And what’s even more impressive for the blue half of Merseyside, is that the average age of the goalscorers was just 22.

Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas were joined on the scoresheet by teenagers Tom Davies and Ademola Lookman, who each netted their first goals in Everton blue.

And with an assured performance at right back by Mason Holgate, Koeman could be on the cusp of something big on the blue half of Merseyside.

We haven’t yet mentioned Ross Barkley either, a man tipped to go all the way, who is still only 23.

And the victory of a shocked Man City showcased the potential which Everton could show on a regular basis in the coming seasons.

Koeman has been happy to trust in youth this season, with 19-year-old Dominic Calvert-Lewin also getting regular first-team action.

And with the emergence of Davies, plus the signing of Lookman from Charlton, the Dutchman has plenty of talented youngsters to blend into his senior squad.

A top-six finish looks just out of reach for the Toffees this season, but as they continue to hand experience to the next generation of stars, they have every chance of breaking into that top group in the very near future.
