Former Man United protégé Ravel Morrison linked with Wigan move

Wigan look set to be the latest club to take a chance on Ravel Morrison, with reports tipping the talented midfielder to join the Latics.

He was regarded by Sir Alex Ferguson as one of the brightest talents he’d ever seen, but so far the 23-year-old has failed to hit those expected heights.

Even the most expensive player on Earth, Paul Pogba, has gone on record stating how highly Morrison’s former youth team comrades at Old Trafford rated the youngster.

The key to the deal looks to be Wigan manager Warren Joyce.

Former Bolton and Preston midfielder Joyce spent eight years in charge of Manchester United’s reserve squad.

That coincided with Morrison’s time coming through the ranks at Old Trafford, and it’s believed the pair know each other well.

After leaving United in 2012, Morrison joined West Ham, again showing glimpses of his untapped potential with a wonderful solo effort against Tottenham.

Loan spells at Birmingham and QPR also showcased the Mancunian’s ability, but things went sour in east London.

A move to Lazio offered the chance of a new start, but first-team chances were few and far between with the Roman side, and last summer Morrison found himself a free agent aged just 23.

After brief spells in charge of Hull City and Royal Antwerp, Wigan represents Joyce’s return to first-team management in almost nine years.

Upon his appointment in November, Morrison was quick to offer his congratulations, and now it seems the pair are set to reunite.

A deal has yet to be agreed, but with the Latics six points from safety in the Championship, they could undoubtedly use some of Morrison’s talents in the remainder of the campaign.

First and foremost for Joyce and his men though, is an Emirates FA Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.

Given the two-time European Cup champion’s struggles of late, Wigan could well hand themselves a reprieve from their own league concerns at 7/5.
