Expect MVG to pick up where he left off with yet another Masters triumph

Michael van Gerwen

He picked up a record-breaking 25 titles in 2016, and rather unsurprisingly followed that up with a second World Championship success. So we’re asking one thing…

Can anyone stop Michael van Gerwen?

As will be the case with many tournaments this year, MVG will be defending his Masters title later this month in Milton Keynes.

And our traders reckon Mighty Mike’s dominance will continue, with 4/7 on offer for the Dutchman to claim his third successive Masters trophy.

The tournament has only been running for four years, with Phil Taylor and James Wade being the other two winners back in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

The Power is a massive 14/1 to go all the way once again, while the Machine is even longer at 33s.

Meanwhile, this year’s World Championship runner-up Gary Anderson is unsurprisingly next in the running behind MVG, with 9/2 on offer for the Flying Scotsman to lift his first trophy of the year.

In fact, we could potentially see a repeat of the Ally Pally final at the end of the month, should both Van Gerwen and Anderson make win all of their games.

The reigning world champ will have to oversee victories against Simon Whitlock, then potentially Jelle Klaasen and Adrian Lewis before he gets there.

Meanwhile, Anderson’s route to the final includes potential meetings with two other world champions in Raymond van Barneveld and Phil Taylor.

So can MVG make it two wins in as many 2017 tournaments? Time will tell…
