Dumbarton do the Ladbrokes Championship awards double

Ladbrokes Championship side Dumbarton have swept the division’s December awards with Stephen Aitken and Sons defender Mark Docherty picking up the Manager of the Month and Player of the Month gongs respectively.
Three league wins and a draw last month saw Aitken’s side scramble away from the drop-zone with Dumbarton currently sitting two points above ninth-placed Ayr United.
December started well for the Sons with a 2-1 victory at Queen of the South followed two weeks later by an impressive 2-1 success over promotion-chasing Falkirk.
The part-timers then went on to rescue a vital point in a 4-4 thriller away at Ayr United.
That was despite the fact that Andrew Stirling was sent-off and the visitors trailed 2-0 at one point before levelling matters late on.
But arguably the best was yet to come.
Player of the Month Docherty was the hero on New Year’s Eve with his strike settling matters in Dumbarton’s favour against the might of Dundee United.
That result capped off a fine end to 2016 and in doing so cemented Aitken and Docherty’s claims for their Ladbrokes SPFL awards.
Dumbarton are 7/1 to upset the odds and beat Hibernian at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium this weekend while it’s 2/5 Neil Lennon’s side secure victory and 10/3 for the draw.
