Celtic scoop December Manager and Player of the Month double

Brendan Rodgers - Ladbrokes Premiership Manager of the Month December 2016

Celtic have done the double and scooped both the Ladbrokes Premiership Manager and Player of the Month awards for December.

Hoops gaffer Brendan Rodgers has taken the plaudits for the third time this season while midfielder Stuart Armstrong has also been recognised for his outstanding efforts.

The league leaders find themselves 19 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand, following a month where they won all eight of their domestic fixtures.

One result in particular stands out, with the Bhoys’ New Year’s Eve victory over arch-rivals Rangers ensuring a very happy end to 2016 for those in the East End of Glasgow.

Rodgers has masterminded the current run with 24-year-old Armstrong more than playing his part by netting five goals in December.

And their side’s achievements weren’t limited to the Scottish top-flight either. A creditable 1-1 draw in their final Champions League group game against Manchester City meant Celtic went the whole month unbeaten.

David Macdonald of Ladbrokes said: “With the form of Stuart Armstrong and the rest of the Bhoys, a domestic clean sweep could be very much on the cards under the leadership of manager of the month Brendan Rodgers.”

Like the rest of the division the Hoops are currently enjoying a winter break with Rodgers and co. currently training in Dubai.

Their next league fixture will be at home to St. Johnstone on January 25.
