Are Tottenham set to lose yet another star to Real Madrid?
Luka Modric. Gareth Bale. Both became heroes at Tottenham only to see Real Madrid swan in and tempt them to La Liga. And according to reports in the press, Dele Alli could be next.
The England international is enjoying his finest year yet, notching up eight Premier League goals and two assists.
And the 20-year-old’s form has seen him become the latest object of Real Madrid’s affections.
Real’s transfer embargo means Spurs fans can breathe a sigh of relief for now, but don’t be surprised to see the La Liga heavyweights come in strong this summer.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has already slapped a £50m price tag on his star midfielder, who signed a new six-year-deal just four months ago.
But after spending a little over £5m for Alli’s services from MK Dons in 2015, it remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy will be tempted by any big-money offers.
It’s not unrealistic to think any offer from Madrid could reach well above £60m.
And Levy has certainly been swayed in the past.
Modric moved for just over £25m in the summer of 2012, with Bale following suit for a then-world record £85m 12 months later.
PSG have also been linked with a move for Alli, who has scored five goals in his last three Premier League appearances.
But for now the White Hart Lane faithful will be hoping their midfield ace ignores all the talk, especially ahead of Chelsea’s visit tomorrow night.
Spurs looking to maintain their top-four challenge, and the Blues are hoping to claim a record-breaking 14th consecutive Premier League win.
And with the odds suggesting a closely-fought encounter awaits, Tottenham will be needing Alli to be on top form.
The bookies make the hosts 17/10 shots to end Chelsea’s dominant streak.
