Are Hull City set to make potentially the signing of the window?

Published:

They may be three points off safety, with a manager at the head of the Sack Race market having scored a Premier League-worst 17 goals in 19 games so far this season, but it might not be curtains for Hull City just yet.

That’s because they’ve been linked with an audacious move for former Barcelona and Chesea striker, Samuel Eto’o.

And the latest odds are suggesting that this carries much more weight than most rumours you’re likely to read on the opening day of the January transfer window. It’s just 4/1 for the 35-year-old to make the switch to the KCOM Stadium.

Currently playing for Turkish outfit Antalyaspor, Eto’o has hinted that a return to the Premier League – where he spent two seasons with Chelsea and Everton – could be on the cards.

And right now its Hull who are the surprise names at the head of the market for the former Cameroon international’s signature.

Though some may say that Eto’o best days have been and gone, there’s still plenty to suggest he could be of great value for the Humberside outfit.

Having scored 12 goals in 35 previous Premier League appearances, the striker has since gone on to net 25 in 44 for his current club.

And when you consider that centre-half Michael Dawson and winger Robert Snodgrass are to thank for 56 per cent of the Tigers’ league goals so far this season, it’s clear Mike Phelan needs a more threatening presence up-front.

So are we likely to see two-time Champions League winner in a Hull City shirt before the month is out? We certainly hope so.

But what do fans think to this news? Is Eto’o the kind of signing the Tigers need to turn their season around, or are there other names out there that would be more suited to the Premier League club?
