X Factor winner Matt Terry clear favourite for Christmas no.1 spot

Published:

It’s a position every pop star on the planet wants, and right now it looks as though it’ll be X Factor winner Matt Terry who finds himself number one in the charts come Christmas Day.

That’s significantly shorter odds than we saw earlier this weekend, when he was priced at 8/1.

But his success, coupled with confirmation that Ed Sheeran penned the winning track, aptly titled When Christmas Comes Around, has seen odds of yet another X Factor winner topping the charts on Christmas fall to just 13/8.

That’s some way ahead of second-favourites, Friends of Jo Cox, who are 4/1 for a festive number one.

And surprisingly, traders have even priced up odds of Honey G pipping her former competitor for the X Factor crown to the post, following the announcement that she’d be releasing her own track on December 23. And we make it 12/1 for the rapper to claim top-spot with her debut single.

Elsewhere, it’s 66/1 for Ed Sheeran to release a chart-topping single in the next week or so, although those odds would have undoubtedly been a lot shorter had he have kept When Christmas Comes Around for himself.

Louis Tomlinson and Steve Aoki performed Just Hold On for the first time live this weekend, and 6/1 says the former One Direction star bags himself the Christmas number one spot with his first solo single.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Punters reckon when Christmas comes around Matt will take home the bragging rights as this year’s festive No.1.”
