Would this Prem trio give Messi, Suarez & Neymar a run for their money?

Between them, they’ve scored 23 goals in the Premier League this season, compared to Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, who have 21 goals combined in La Liga. 

So we’re asking the question: could Alexis Sanchez, Philippe Coutinho and Sergio Aguero be a match for Barcelona’s famous trio?

On face value, you’d say that nobody can come close to MSN.

But the statistics would suggest otherwise.

First off, it’s worth considering the difference in leagues. Granted, Spain may boast some of the world’s best players, but the Premier League is undoubtedly one of the most competitive on the globe.

Right now, there are six teams in with a genuine chance of winning the title in England – a title which has been won by four different sides in the last four years.

Compare that with La Liga, where most years the title race is between two teams, Barca and Real Madrid.

That makes those earlier figures for Aguero, Sanchez and Coutinho all the more impressive.

Manchester City have one of the deadliest strikers in the world in Sergio Aguero. The Argentine has netted a staggering 132 league goals in 193 appearances since the 2010-11 campaign.

And there’s only a few players that can match that kind of ratio – Luis Suarez is one of them, with 140 strikes coming in just 192 games.

But Aguero has often been linked with a move to Spain, and there’s a feeling that the 28-year-old would be plying his trade alongside Messi and Neymar now had Suarez have turned down a move in 2014.

Without question the best striker currently in England, Aguero would certainly give Suarez a run for his money.

The Uruguayan will be turning 30 next month, while, if anything, Aguero is only just approaching his peak years.

Chile international Sanchez had a chance at Camp Nou after securing a switch to the Spanish giants from Udinese back in 2011. He was, however, forced out of the first-team after the arrival of Luis Suarez.

But the 27-year-old has flourished under Arsene Wenger at the Emirates, netting 52 goals in all competitions for the Gunners in just under two-and-a-half years.

He’s shown us his versatility this year, too, adapting to a more central role. And that means he’s more than capable of filling any of the front three roles in this fantasy trio.

And then there’s Coutinho. It’s taken him a while, but the Little Magician is finally proving himself to be one of the best players in the country right now.

He’s set for up to five weeks out on the sidelines, and it emphasises just how important Coutinho is to Liverpool’s title hopes that their odds of winning the league have dropped slightly from 11/4 to 3/1 since that news was revealed.

Already with five goals to his name and three assists, the Brazilian is on course for his best ever season.

No surprise then that he’s been been the subject of a move away from Anfield in recent weeks.
