World Darts Championship: There’s value in tonight’s Headline Double

Once again tonight the Ally Pally will play host to some of the finest players on the PDC circuit tonight, as we head into Night Three of the World Darts Championship.

And we’ve got just the double for you to get on, featuring perhaps the two biggest names who’ll be stepping up to the oche this evening.

We’re paying 2/1 for Stephen Bunting and Cristo Reyes to progress to the last-32 of the tournament, despite both players being odds-on in their respective matches.

Ladbrokes News takes a look at the pair’s upcoming games, and how The Bullet and The Spartan should go about their business this evening.

Cristo Reyes v Dimitri van den Bergh

Both players are priced at 10/11 to win this one, but it’s Reyes who’s some 20 places ahead of his opponent in the PDC Order of Merit.

Granted, such is the standard of every player right now, we know we can’t just back Reyes based on his place in the rankings.

But he’s had a fairly solid year as he attempts to climb further up the Order of Merit, regularly reaching the last 16 in a whole host of events since January.

Though Van den Bergh has huge potential – he’s still only 22 – it’s a big ask for him to get on this stage and out-throw a player of Reyes’ standard over this format.

Stephen Bunting v Darren Webster

He hasn’t had the best of years, but when Bunting is on his game, there aren’t many better than him.

With a Players Championship trophy under his belt back in March, combined with a handful of semi and quarter-finals this year, the Bullet should have enough in his locker to defeat Webster.

Demolition Man has fallen at the first hurdle in this competition in three of his six appearances – and plenty would argue Bunting is his toughest opening-round opponent to date.

A solid run in the Worlds is exactly what The Bullet needs to get his career back on-track.
