Wolves favourites to land Aston Villa outcast in January

Published:

Ross McCormack has hardly had a fair crack of the whip since joining Aston Villa back in the summer. It all looked so promising for the former Fulham man when he first arrived, but new manager Steve Bruce has clearly decided McCormack won’t be a part of his long-term plans.

But that’s not to say the Scotland international isn’t a quality striker. His record speaks for itself, netting a staggering 66 league goals in his past three Championship campaigns.

However, 70 per cent of his starts for Villa this season came when Roberto Di Matteo was in charge, with Bruce opting for the likes of Jonathan Kodjia and Gabriel Agbonlahor instead.

So where does that leave McCormack?

Luckily for the 30-year-old, the winter transfer window is now less than 10 days away, and there’ll be a whole host of clubs battling for his signature, should he be made available.

And the latest odds are suggesting he won’t have to travel very far to find a potential suitor, with Black Country outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly keen in adding the forward to their ranks.

And as things stand, they’re 5/1 favourites for his signature.

New Wolves boss Paul Lambert knows his side have been lacking a genuine goal-scoring threat for much of this season, and have had to rely on midfielder Helder Costa and Dave Edwards to find the back of the net.

In fact, between them, the aforementioned pair have contributed some 35 per cent of Wolves’ league goals this season, while the four recognised strikers have contributed just 25 per cent of that overall tally.

With Lambert seemingly keen to add a goalscoring threat to his side as they look to push on in the second-half of the season, he may just turn to the club he used to manage to lend a helping hand.

But what do both sets of supporters think? Would McCormack be missed at Villa Park, and would he be welcomed at Molineux?
