Tottenham lining up shock move for Man City’s on-loan ace

Published:

With Hugo Lloris reportedly eyeing a move out of White Hart Lane, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is on the hunt for a new goalkeeper.

And the man at the top of his wish list is believed to be Manchester City stopper Joe Hart, with 5/1 for the England ace to join Spurs in the summer.

The 29-year-old stopper was unceremoniously farmed out to Torino on loan this summer, but has been making Citizens’ boss Pep Guardiola eat his words, with a series of outstanding displays for Il Toro.

And he’s been similarly impressive on international duty, following a run of four consecutive clean sheets for England as they close in on qualification for World Cup 2018 in Russia.

But despite his Italian renaissance, the former Shrewsbury Town stopper could well be tempted back to English football by the Lilywhites, with Pochettino’s men on the cusp of the Premier League top four – and still possessing genuine title ambitions.

Torino, meanwhile, haven’t recorded a top-five finish in Serie A since 1991, meaning the ambitious stopper is unlikely to see his time with Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side as anything more than a stepping stone.

For Spurs’ part, if Lloris exits, they’re extremely light on the ground, with the solid but unspectacular Michel Vorm the only option with any real top-flight experience.

With Guardiola seemingly keen to persist with Claudio Bravo, and Transfermarkt.co.uk estimating Hart’s current market value at £12.75m, Pochettino could well snap up a genuinely top-class keeper for a fairly modest sum.

Next up for Spurs is a visit to Old Trafford to face a Manchester United side who have won just one of their last six league games.

Tottenham look well priced for victory at 13/5, while 40/1 says the visitors repeat the 3-0 battering they gave United back in April.
