Sturridge set for winter move, but where’s best for Liverpool outcast?

The strange case of Daniel Sturridge and Jurgen Klopp could come to an end when the winter transfer opens next week. The Liverpool striker, despite scoring 57 goals in 104 appearances for the club, just can’t force his way into his manager’s plans.

It’s frustrating for the neutral to watch, especially given that we’re talking about one of the most exciting forwards England has produced in recent years.

But, unfortunately for Sturridge, he’s simply not deemed a ‘Klopp player’.

The German boss is yet to be proven that his decision to drop Sturridge was wrong though. The Reds are currently occupying second place in the league, having scored a staggering 45 goals, a figure which can’t be matched by any side. Of those 45 strikes, Sturridge has just one.

But there’s no doubting the 27-year-old’s quality. So where does he go next?

Ladbrokes News takes a look at three potential options for the England international…

Arsenal

Such is the style of play that many of the league’s top teams opt for, it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing Sturridge in a Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur shirt any time soon, nor does a Chelsea or Man City return look likely.

But the Gunners did show some interest in the forward back in the summer, and Arsene Wenger’s tactical approach to games would certainly suit Sturridge.

Not to mention the fact that he’d be able to link-up with international colleagues such as Danny Welbeck, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott.

The only downside to this is that Wenger signed another forward in August in Lucas Perez. And the emergence of Alexis Sanchez through the middle, coupled with the physical presence Olivier Giroud boasts when leading the line means game-time at the Emirates would be hard to come by.

It’d probably be the biggest move Sturridge could get right now, although it remains to be seen whether this one goes ahead.

West Ham

This one, however, seems like a match made in heaven.

Sturridge is desperate to play, and the Hammers are crying out for a striker. Should the Birmingham-born forward make the move to east London, he’d undoubtedly walk straight into Slaven Bilic’s starting XI. Then he can begin to rebuild his reputation as one of the league’s deadliest strikers as he approaches his best years.

The only downside to this move is West Ham’s current league position. Bilic’s men are yet to find the kind of form that saw them challenge for a top-four spot last season, and the thought of playing for a mid-table club may put Sturridge off this potential switch.

But, with his goalscoring instinct, the Hammers would certainly be a real force, and would inevitably climb up the table as the season progresses.

A move abroad

Sturridge may well follow in the footsteps of another of his international colleagues, Joe Hart, by moving abroad to get game-time.

Should the striker be open to a move away from England, even if it were a temporary one, there’d undoubtedly be a whole host of clubs queuing for his services.

Several Italian outfits have shown an interest in Premier League outcasts of late, with both Marouane Fellaini and Saido Berahino being linked with moves to Serie A.

Get the go ahead from Klopp to move, and it’d come as no surprise to see the likes of Inter, AC Milan and Roma throwing their hats in the mix.
