Real Madrid could be set to burst Chelsea’s bubble with summer bid

Published:

On the whole, things have been going pretty well for Chelsea of late. They’re six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, they’ve won their last 11 matches, conceding just two goals in the process, and their transfer budget looks set to be boosted by the departure of Brazilian outcast, Oscar.

But unfortunately for Blues fans, the good news doesn’t keep on coming, with Real Madrid set to rain on the Stamford Bridge parade.

Remember that transfer embargo handed to Los Blancos, which prevented them from signing any new players until 2018? Well, it’s been cut to just one more transfer window, meaning Zinedine Zidane can spend big next summer, and reports are suggesting west London will be his first port of call.

The European heavyweights have long been admirers of Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, with the Belgium international refusing to rule out a move to the Spanish capital.

And a deal could go ahead at the end of this season, with the 25-year-old on course to win his second Premier League medal in three years.

While Chelsea would demand a phenomenal fee for Hazard, Madrid do have one bargaining tool which would significantly reduce the sum they’d have to part with – James Rodriguez.

Star of the 2014 World Cup, Rodriguez has struggled for game time under Zidane, and it’s thought a cash-plus-player deal could be on the cards, especially given that the Blues have showed an interest in the Columbia international in the past.

Chelsea will drive a hard bargain, but Madrid aren’t exactly known for being tight-spenders, meaning we could quite easily be seeing Hazard in the famous white shirt in 2017.

What do fans think? Can you see this deal going ahead, and would a swap deal necessarily be a bad thing?
