Premier League owners needn’t look at Monk, he’s perfect for Leeds

We’re fast approaching the half-way point of the season, and of course, that means the managerial merry-go-round will be back in the coming weeks as struggling Premier League sides look to avoid the drop.

And while Garry Monk is a name who’ll undoubtedly be on several top-flight clubs’ wish-list, they needn’t bother trying to tempt him into a move – he’s on a mission with Leeds United.

At long last, there seems to be some stability at the Yorkshire outfit, and the Whites are mounting a genuine promotion challenge, winning seven of their last nine games.

Monk is playing a huge part in that, and with his side currently sitting fifth in the Championship table, it seems nothing can stop him in his quest to take Leeds back to the big time.

Last weekend’s win against Brentford showed a new side to this team. Last year it was them who were dropping points late on in games, conceding eight decisive goals in the last five minutes of games.

That hasn’t been the case this time around, though, with Monk bringing in the likes of Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson to add experience and steel at the back.

It’s paid off, too, with Leeds conceding just one goal in the last five minutes of the matches they’ve played this campaign.

They’re a different side going forward as well. Striker Chris Wood is already just two goals away from matching last season’s tally, which also happened to be his career-best, while Hadi Sacko looks to be a great addition to the squad, notching up four assists already from out wide.

Currently heading the Sack Race market in the Premier League is Bob Bradley at Swansea, Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace, and Hull City’s Mike Phelan.

While it’s unlikely the Swans will make a move for Monk, who they sacked just over a year ago, both Palace and Hull will likely approach the 37-year-old should they part ways with their current bosses.

But they needn’t bother, as this Leeds United side may well be playing at a higher level than both those relegation-threatened clubs come next August.

As things stand, Leeds are 7/1 to go up this season. And we reckon that’s excellent value given their current form.
