Our player of the Worlds so far? 9/2 second-favourite Gary Anderson

It’s fair to say we’ve been treated to some truly sensational tungsten action in the last two weeks. But there’s still everything to play for, and one man looks well on course to claim his third World Darts Championship trophy.
Such has been the quality of Michael van Gerwen’s performances throughout the year, we can be easily excused for missing a trick with Gary Anderson.
Indeed, it appears the Flying Scotsman has saved his best darts for the biggest stage of all, after a relatively quiet year for a player of his standards.
And his odds for the Worlds have reflected the 12 months he’s had, as it’s 4/1 for the 46-year-old to go all the way once again.
But he’s proved in his opening three matches that it’ll take something pretty special to beat him in this tournament.
After breezing through the first two rounds without dropping a set against Mark Frost and Andrew Gilding, Anderson recorded the best average of the tournament so far in a 4-2 win against Benito van de Pas.
And with 22 180s already to his name in this tournament, Anderson is showing us all that he means business.
As far as his competition goes, the 4/6 favourite Van Gerwen is getting the job done, although he faced an incredibly difficult match last time out about Cristo Reyes.
And the history books show that this isn’t a tournament which MVG does well in, with the world number one only progressing further than this stage on three previous occasions out of a possible nine.
The Flying Scotsman will face Dave Chisnall in the Quarter Final. Win that, and he’ll be up against either James Wade, Michael Smith,Peter Wright or Ian White in the semis.
There’s every chance of him meeting Mighty Mike in the final. And while the Dutchman may have 25 titles to his name this year, he’ll have to better every other performance he’s put in throughout 2016 if he’s to stop our Player of the Tournament so far…
