Nottingham Forest lead chase to snap up lower league goal machine

Defeat to bitter rivals Derby County may have left Nottingham Forest seven points outside the play-off spots, but their promotion push could be revitalised in January with the signing of Omar Bogle.

The Grimsby Town ace starred as the Mariners won promotion back to the Football League last season, and he’s continued to shine in the current campaign, netting 16 times in 20 League Two outings – including seven goals in his last five games.

That form has caught the eye of a number of Championship clubs, but it’s Forest who are currently leading the race for the striker’s signature, with 7/2 for him to make the move to the City Ground.

Relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic are next up at 5/1, with Bristol City and Leeds United both priced at 6s to add him to their ranks.

There’s a chance we could see a genuine bidding war over Bogle in January, but the signs suggest it’s the two clubs leading the market who will be most desperate to secure his signature.

Wigan are the Championship’s lowest scorers with just 16 goals from 20 games, while Forest haven’t had a single player net more than six times for them in the league this season.

However, with the Reds still harbouring hopes of a play-off spot, the bookies are unsurprisingly tipping Philippe Montanier as the most likely man to tempt the prolific hitman away from Blundell Park.

Next up for Nottingham Forest is a home clash against Preston North End, with the hosts 11/8 to record a third win in five at the City Ground.
