Mrs Brown’s Boys favourite to be Top Christmas Day programme

Published:

It was recently voted the best British sitcom of the 21st Century, and Mrs Brown’s Boys is set to return to our screens for two Christmas Specials this year. It’s no surprise then that our traders make it the 13/8 favourite to be the most watched TV show on December 25.

And should it top the lot it’d be the third time in four years that the comedy finds itself ahead of the competition, after the 2014 and 2013 Specials were watched by 9.69m and 9.4m viewers respectively.

Last year it was Downton Abbey that ran away with the viewing figures, closely followed by Strictly Come Dancing and, of course, Mrs Brown’s Boys.

But ITV’s hit drama was drawn to a close last year, meaning the number one position is up for grabs once again.

And it’s Strictly that’s next in the running at 2/1 to be the most watched show on Christmas Day.

There could be some value in backing The Great Christmas Bake Off though at 4/1, as this year’s Bake Off final achieved record-breaking viewing figures – over 14.8m, if you were wondering.

As always, there’s room in the market for Eastenders at 12/1, although the BBC soap hasn’t claimed top-spot since 2012.

And on the subject of soaps, Eastenders’ rival Coronation Street is some way off at 25/1 after a relatively quiet year on the cobbles.
