Everton look ready to ring in the changes next month with James McCarthy set to depart Goodison Park and Alan Dzagoev tipped as a new arrival.

McCarthy has made just four Premier League appearances under Toffees boss Ronald Koeman this term, and his only 90-minute run came on the opening day.

The Republic of Ireland international has been encouraged by the Emerald Isle boss Martin O’Neill to ‘fight like mad’ for his Everton career, but the damage may have already been done.

West Brom have emerged as a potential destination for the winger, with the Baggies reportedly eyeing up a £15m move.

Celtic are also believed to be considering a bid, while Everton themselves have been linked with Alan Dzagoev as a replacement.

The 26-year-old Russian has been viewed as the man who could add competition for the like of Ross Barkley and Gerard Deulofeu, while also providing cover for the injured Yannick Bolasie.

With 46 goals and 62 assists, Dzagoev would bring plenty of ability to Goodison, in addition to plenty of Champions League experience and 50 international caps.

And with speculation continuing to surround the future of Romelu Lukaku, Everton may need to spend next month to persuade their ace striker to stay beyond next summer.

The Toffees could use a boost, having won only one of their last 10 fixtures.

Next up for Koeman’s men is the visit of Arsenal on Tuesday night, but the bookies make the hosts 14/5 outsiders.
