Man United favourites for Europa League after last 32 are confirmed

Manchester United are 5/1 favourites for Europa League success this season after they qualified for the knockout stages of the competition with a convincing win away at Zorya Luhansk to secure their progression.

And that would make for a solid first season in charge for Jose Mourinho, who is well on course to win his fourth EFL Cup, despite his side struggling to replicate their cup form in the Premier League.

And it’s another English side in Tottenham Hotspur who are second-favourites at 8/1 to win Europe’s second-tier trophy, after they crashed out of the Champions League in the group stages.

Meanwhile, Roma are considered to have a 10/1 chance of going all the way this year, after breezing through their group with an unbeaten record, with only two sides in the competition managing to find the net on more occasions than I Giallorossi (16).

And it’s those two sides, Zenit St. Petersburg and Shakhtar Donetsk, who are next in the running, with the pair both being priced at 14/1 after equally solid campaigns.

One thing’s for sure this year – there’ll definitely be a new name on the trophy, as reigning champions Sevilla progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League, having won the Europa League for three consecutive seasons.

And 20/1 says the trophy stays in Spain and goes to either Athletic Bilbao or Villarreal, while Celta Vigo are further back in the market at 33/1.

It’s PAOK who are the rank outsiders in this market, with 150/1 saying they pull off an unlikely cup win, becoming the first Greek side to ever win this competition.

Surprisingly, no French side has ever won the UEFA Cup or Europa League, and traders don’t reckon that will change any time soon, with Lyon and St Etienne priced at 20/1 and 33/1 respectively.
