Juventus and Inter lead race for Tottenham flop Sissoko

Italian giants Juventus and Inter are ready to battle it out to sign Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

For a while it seemed Tottenham had landed one of the deals of the summer when they snapped up Sissoko from Newcastle. But with Christmas on the horizon it seems Spurs are rueing parting ways with that £30m.

A starring role for France in the European Championships prompted a queue of clubs to pursue the midfielder, and there was plenty of happy faces around White Hart Lane when Spurs won Sissoko’s signature.

But aside from a starring role in the 2-0 win over Man City, the man who so frustrated Newcastle fans with inconsistent displays has been up to his old tricks in London.

The 27-year-old has barely featured for Spurs since stunning the Citizens, and has missed two Premier League games after being handed a suspension for elbowing Harry Arter at Bournemouth.

And now it seems Sissoko’s short time in north London could be coming to a swift end.

Following Mauricio Pochettino’s rare but very public criticism of his big-money signing, Juventus and Inter have each been linked with a move.

Italian outlet Calciomercato.com believe the northern powerhouses are ready to pursue Sissoko once again, having been rejected in the summer.

Spanish side Sevilla are also in contention, while Ronald Koeman may yet return to the table with Everton, whom Sissoko contemplated joining before heading to Tottenham.

Each of these sides will be hoping they know how to unlock the Sissoko who starred on the world stage this summer, and not the one who did little to help Newcastle avoid the drop last season.

Sissoko isn’t the only problem for Pochettino, who has seen his side win just one of their last 10 games.

They’ll be hoping to end that rut this weekend when Swansea visit the Lane, and the bookies make Spurs odds-on favourites at 4/11 for three much-needed points.
