It’s time for Adrian Lewis to step up and prove our traders wrong

A two-time World Champion priced up at 28/1 to win this year’s title tells you all you need to know about the standard of darts we’re seeing on the PDC circuit right now. But it’s not out of the equation to expect Adrian Lewis to go all the way at Ally Pally.
For starters, he was close to doing exactly that last year, losing 7-5 in the final to Gary Anderson, despite boasting a better average in that game.
And it’s the opinion of many that Aidy’s main problem is himself. If he’s playing his best darts, no one in the world can get near him. Any player will tell you that.
In fact, they did, when we caught up with the likes of James Wade, and Robert Thornton back in October. The pair both agreed that when Lewis is throwing his best darts and not even Michael van Gerwen can get near him.
However, it’s not been the best of years for Jackpot. It hasn’t been awful, but he’ll certainly have wanted to have picked up more trophies, with just a UK Open Qualifier and a World Cup of Darts win to speak of.
As ranking tournaments go, that World Championship back in January was Lewis’ only final of 2016, but write him off in this tournament at your peril.
He was as long as 16/1 heading into last year’s Worlds, meaning punters backing him each way got paid out at 8s as he reached the last two.
And he stormed into the quarter-finals without dropping a set, before defeating both Peter Wright and Raymond van Barneveld with relative ease en route to the final.
Being the fifth-seed this year means Jackpot will have to potentially see off the likes of Barney in the third-round and Phil Taylor in the quarters.
Win those games and it’s likely Lewis will meet a seemingly unstoppable MVG in the semis in what would undoubtedly be his biggest match of the year.
Get through that, and each-way backers of Aidy will already be looking to cash in the first-half of their bet.
It’s a big ask, but we’ve got faith in the lad from Stoke-on-Trent.
