Here’s why Man United to beat Everton looks like an away banker

A model of inconsistency during the season’s formative months, Manchester United are now beginning to find their feet under Jose Mourinho, with three wins and two draws in their last five games.

And that’s just the start of the compelling case to beat Everton on Saturday…

First off, there’s the H2H record. United have enjoyed victory on 14 of their last 22 trips to Goodison Park, dating back to September 1995. And that’s a stat they boosted on their last visit to the blue half of Merseyside, winning 3-0 here last October.

In fact, United have taken 10 points from their last five league trips to the city, with back-to-back wins at Anfield preceding this season’s cagey 0-0 draw.

Not that the pair have fared any better on their travels, with Everton losing their lost three meetings against the 20-time English champions – most recently in last season’s FA Cup semi-final.

The pair’s contrasting recent form also sees this one tilted very much in the Manchester club’s favour.

While United have won two of their last three extremely convincingly – beating Feyenoord 4-0 and West Ham United 4-1- it’s been a very different story for Ronald Koeman’s men.

A run of one win in nine games has included a 5-0 pasting at the hands of Chelsea and a home EFL Cup humbling at the hands of Championship Norwich City.

That sequence looks even less likely to improve on Sunday when you take into account that two of the Toffees’ frequent nemeses finding their best form for United.

Former Evertonian Wayne Rooney put in an outstanding display from a deep-lying role against West Ham on Wednesday night. And Anthony Martial – who netted the winner in the last two meetings between these two – scored two excellent goals in midweek.

In the match betting, Man United look generously priced for victory at 11/10, with Everton 27/10 to win and the draw on at 12/5.

In the goal markets, the 40/1 for the Red Devils to record a fourth 4-1 victory of the season looks well worth a flutter – especially considering they won by a three-goal margin at Goodison Park last season.

Meanwhile, at 2/1 to score anytime, Anthony Martial’s looks well worth a punt in light of his midweek magnificence and record in this fixture.
