Football in 2017: 7/4 says Pogba’s world record fee gets beaten

It was a pretty crazy year for football in 2016 and as we come to the end of it, we’ve started looking ahead to what 2017 may bring.

While it seems quite unlikely now that we’ll see a 5000/1 Premier League winner in 2017, or indeed any other year, our football traders have priced up a few specials which have a rather more realistic chance of happening.

First up is the 7/4 on Paul Pogba’s £89m move to Manchester United being broken.

With Real Madrid’s transfer embargo reduced, at least six Premier League teams scrapping to be top of the table, and the endless influx of money from China, the bookies have gone less than 2/1 Pogba’s fee is broken in 2017.

And after eight years since it was first proposed, the idea that the Premier League might hold a global 39th game hasn’t gone away.

Initially rejected in 2010, the Premier League claimed there were thinking about the idea once again in October 2014.

The latest bumper TV deal has only enhanced the Premier League’s global appeal, and pre-season saw more teams than ever went on publicity-rich friendly tournaments.

The bookies make it 10/1 that a 39th Premier League game abroad is announced in 2017.

And another issue that’s come and gone is the age-old topic over whether or not the Premier League wants or needs a winter break.

But our traders don’t reckon a Christmas rest will be coming anytime soon, with 25/1 on offer that a winter break is introduced next season.

And finally, with many of the game’s biggest and best bosses in the Premier League, we go 5/1 that one of Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho or Jurgen Klopp get the sack next season.
