Everything points towards an Arsenal win at West Ham

Published:

Both West Ham and Arsenal were in EFL Cup action this week, with the Gunners and the Hammers crashing out in the quarter-finals to Manchester United and Southampton respectively.

But it’s back to the Premier League now, and while Arsene Wenger’s men have hardly been great to watch of late, it’s hard to see past them picking up three points in this one.

For starters, this game comes off the back of two games in quick succession against Man United for West Ham, while they faced Tottenham Hotspur before that in the league.

In short, it’s probably the worst time for Slaven Bilic’s men to face Arsenal, having been run around the field in their last trio of fixtures. Wenger’s attacking talent will be looking to exploit what must be a tired back-four for the home side.

And this is a month in which the Gunners tend to do well, having won 15 of their last 23 fixtures in December.

Wenger has faced West Ham on four previous occasions over the festive period since taking over at the north London outfit, winning three of those matches and drawing one.

And while we’re on the subject of H2H meetings between these two, it’s worth noting that the Gunners haven’t lost away at West Ham for 10 years.

In fact, of their previous 40 meetings in the Premier League, Arsenal have won a staggering 25 games and drawn eight, while the Hammers have just seven wins to speak of.

Still not convinced this one has got an away win written all over it?

Arsenal have won five of their last six opening Premier League fixtures in December. The home side, however, generally struggle in the final month of the year, managing just 10 league wins from their last 44 matches in this month.

The east London outfit have also failed to win a league game directly after an EFL Cup tie since January 2014, while Arsenal have won their last four league fixtures directly after EFL Cup games.

That makes the away side great value then at 3/4 to grab their ninth win of the season and extend their unbeaten run in the league to 13 games.
