Bolton Wanderers mean business, and they’re great value for title

They took a while to get going this season, but right now, it looks as though there’s no stopping Bolton Wanderers in their quest for League One glory. And at 13/5, they represent incredible value to go all the way this season and lift the trophy.

They’re just one point off the division’s top-spot, despite an early blip which saw them go seven league games without a win between August and October.

But since then, they’ve won nine of their last 10 games, and things are finally starting to click at the Macron Stadium.

They undoubtedly boast the best squad in the division, with the likes of Ben Alnwick, David Wheater, Jay Spearing and Sammy Ameobi all with Premier League experience under their belts. But it’s the striker partnership of Zach Clough and Gary Madine that has impressed fans and pundits most.

Between them, the pair have 12 goals already this season, with the latter netting a brace earlier this week in a convincing 4-0 win against promotion-chasing Gillingham.

That was by far their best performance of the season to date, and it showed us that Phil Parkinson’s men are adding goals to their game. That can only be a worry for the rest of the division.

They’re not the highest scorers in the league, far from it in fact, with 28 goals to their name from their opening 21 games. But they’re hard to break down, and once they go ahead, it’s rare they let a lead slip – so rare, in fact, that it’s something they’ve only done twice this season.

Just the 12 goals conceded also means they have the best defensive unit in the league by a country mile – and only Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion have conceded fewer than the Trotters in the top four tiers of English football.

As if often the case in this league, Sheffield United are the favourites to top the table come next May. But the Blades tend to struggle to get the job done in the second-half of the season, and this is their sixth attempt at returning to the Championship.

But as long as United are favourites, it means there’s great value in backing Bolton as far as we’re concerned. Although if they continue to build on this fine run of form throughout the festive period, we reckon 13/5 may be the best price you’ll get on them this season.
