Arsenal preparing for life after Petr Cech with bid for Belgian ace

They may have one of the best goalkeepers ever to play in the Premier League in their ranks, but Arsenal are reportedly preparing for life after Petr Cech. And it’s Standard Liege goalkeeper Guillaume Hubert who’s believed to be top of Arsene Wenger’s wish list.

Arriving at the Belgian outfit from French side Valenciennes back in 2012, the 6ft 6in goalkeeper made his debut for the 2015-16 Jupiler League runners-up last season, keeping a respectable seven clean sheets from 18 games.

Still yet to claim the number one spot on a regular basis for Les Rouches, it’s thought the Gunners are considering making a move for Hubert as early as next month.

But while transfermarkt.co.uk value the 22-year-old at £650k, it’s thought any club that want Hubert’s services will have to fork out substantially more than that figure.

It’s reported that Wenger has sent scouts to watch the Belgium U-21 international on six occasions, and despite a whole host of Premier League clubs showing an interest, the thought of training alongside a name like Cech would almost certainly be too good to turn down.

While there’s been no mention of the former Czech Republic international leaving the Emirates any time soon – it doesn’t take a genius to know that he’s approaching the latter stages of his career.

With reserve goalkeeper David Ospina also reportedly looking for a move away for first-team football, and Wojiech Szczesny seemingly happy with Roma, there’s plenty of reason to suggest Wenger will add Hubert to his ranks at the earliest opportunity.

The Gunners are next in action on Boxing Day, when they host Tony Pulis’ West Brom. And at 1/3, our traders reckon the Gunners will get back to winning ways after two defeats on the road.
