Arsenal don’t need to add to their ranks in January, and here’s why

The winter transfer window is just around the corner, and as always, a handful of European talents have been linked with a move to Arsenal. Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler is just one of those names, with the player seemingly set to leave the German outfit next month.

But the Gunners don’t need to add the 23-year-old to their ranks, especially when they’ve got Danny Welbeck returning to full fitness.

In fact, it’s been that long since Gooners have seen the forgotten man in action that it’ll almost feel like he is a new signing.

And despite the last few weeks not exactly going to plan for Arsene Wenger’s men, there’s plenty to be excited about in the second-half of the campaign – and that’s largely to do with Welbeck’s return.

Despite only featuring in 11 league games for Arsenal last season between February and May, the 26-year-old found the net four times, assisting two.

He also brings a whole new dimension to Wenger’s team, and is arguably one of the more versatile forwards currently at the Emirates, being equally comfortable out on both flanks as he is through the middle.

His link-up play is something Arsenal have been lacking in recent weeks, and Gooners caught a glimpse of just how effective Alex Iwobi can be when Welbeck in on the pitch.

The Nigeria international has struggled to consistently perform this season, but there’s no doubting Welbeck’s return to the first-team will change that.

Mesut Ozil’s overall contribution so far this campaign has been lacking as well, but Welbeck’s absence may have played a part in that.

In fact, three of the England international’s four goals last season were set up by his German teammate. Ozil’s eye for a pass, coupled with Welbeck’s ability to time his runs to perfection means Arsenal will pose an even greater threat going forward than they have so far this year.

Granted, it’s always exciting to see a new face arrive at any club – but there’s always the risk that things don’t work out as planned.

However, Arsenal fans already know what they’re going to get with Welbeck, and they should be more than happy to see him back in the Gunners shirt.
