Allardyce seeks Defoe reunion to ease Palace’s relegation worries

New Crystal Palace boss Sam Allardyce is reportedly targeting a reunion with Jermain Defoe to score the Eagles out of trouble.
The pair worked together last season at Sunderland, with Allardyce’s shrewd management and Defoe’s 15 Premier League goals ensuring their survival.
Defoe already has eight for this season, and despite turning 34 in October, is set to be a man in demand next month.
West Ham are another side linked with a move for the former Tottenham striker, who is seventh on the Premier League’s all-time goalscorers list.
Allardyce took charge of Palace on Christmas eve, after the Eagles parted ways with Alan Pardew on Thursday.
With Connor Wickham out for the rest of the season, Palace have few options to support Christian Benteke.
The Belgian has scored eight times since joining the club from Liverpool in the summer, but it appears Allardyce is keen on finding alternative attacking options.
Defoe’s contract with Sunderland runs through to 2019, but it remains to be seen whether the London-born hotshot fancies a move back home.
