Albion star Ryan Wallace claims his boss is being underrated

Albion Rovers striker Ryan Wallace has claimed clubs across the country have failed to spot the potential shown by the club’s manager Darren Young. 

After achieving safety in Ladbrokes League 1 last season, Young has led the club to a promising start to this campaign, with Albion currently seventh in the table.

With managers from the lower leagues in Scotland often poached by bigger clubs, Wallace admits he’s surprised there hasn’t been more interest in his manager.

Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes News, the former Dunfermline forward said: “I had a few offers in the summer, but the manager had been on the phone quite a lot and impressed me with what he was saying and what he wanted do. So, I thought I’d take the chance and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.

“I can’t believe a lot of clubs are overlooking him and what he’s achieved over the last couple of seasons. He’s won promotion and working wonders with a club that has a very small budget in comparison to our rivals. All the players enjoy working for him and enjoy playing under him.

“I just can’t believe he’s been overlooked, but that’s for the clubs to decide – I suppose I’m not a chief executive. But I think it’s a shame he’s been overlooked because he has the making of a top manager and he’s a really good guy.”

Wallace is currently Albion’s top-scorer with six goals and three assists to show for his efforts this season – and the 26-year-old certainly seems to be enjoying his spell at Cliftonhill.

He added: “The season’s been good so far. Obviously, we’ve been quite unlucky in some of the games we’ve played in; we should’ve taken more from some matches.

“But, overall, we’re quite happy. I would’ve liked to have scored more goals, but chipping in here and there, as well as setting up for others, I’m quite happy with and I’m enjoying it.”

Wallace and his team-mates are at home to East Fife on Christmas Eve, with Rovers priced at 23/20 to claim all three points.
