Airdrieonians’ rookie boss calls for Cathro ‘to be given a chance’

Airdrieonians manager Mark Wilson has asked for new Hearts boss Ian Cathro to be given a chance to prove himself in the Ladbrokes Premiership.
The 30-year-old was given his first job as a senior manager at Tynecastle last week, and faced a controversial flurry of criticism due to the fact he’s never played professional football.
But having coached at clubs like Valencia and Newcastle United, Wilson insists Cathro should be given some breathing space.
Similarly, Wilson is 32 and starting out life as a manager at Ladbrokes League 1 side Airdrieonians, and thinks Hearts’ decision to go for Cathro is a refreshing one.
Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes News, Wilson said: “I would just like to see this guy given a chance.
“For us young coaches, I think it’s a good thing. There’s nothing worse than the same names getting the same jobs over and over again.
“I think it’s a brilliant thing – he’s a fresh mind, and whilst he might not have played the game, he’s coached at the highest level.
“Maybe everyone should just calm down a bit and let’s just give the guy a chance to prove himself.
“Hopefully chairmen will look at it if he does well and think it’s worthwhile giving a younger guy a crack. Good luck to him.”
Cathro takes charge of his first home game this weekend against Partick Thistle, with Hearts 4/6 favourites to claim all three points.
