Will Man City go for more than just a point against Gladbach?

Manchester City look to have rediscovered their early-season form, following a minor blip between September and October. And while on paper they could find themselves out of the Champions League before Christmas, a point against Borussia Monchengladbach this week would secure Pep Guardiola’s men a place in the last 16.

And City will be heading into this one having already breezed past their opponents on Matchday 1, with Sergio Aguero and Kelechi Iheanacho both netting in a 4-0 win.

Granted, it’s hard to envision a repeat of that scoreline in the German outfit’s backyard, but optimistic punters can get odds of 28/1 on the Citizens netting another four without reply.

Aguero scored a magnificent hat-trick that day, and 12/1 says he does the same again.

It may not be in Guardiola’s nature to do so, but his City side could play for a draw at Borussia-Park, knowing that it would be enough to see them through to the knockout stages.

However, that would all but rule out any chance of the Manchester outfit topping Group C, with current leaders Barcelona needing just four points from their last two games to do exactly that.

The home side will be without Julian Korb, who picked up a sloppy red card last time out against Celtic. And that means Raheem Sterling or Nolito could have some joy out on the left-hand side of the pitch, as Gladbach will have to make do with a replacement.

It’s 13/2 for the latter to open the scoring, while 9/1 says Sterling nets first.

Meanwhile, once again, Vincent Kompany looks set to miss out on another clash through injury. The Belgium international collided with his own goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, in City’s 2-1 win at Crystal Palace last weekend, and John Stones might be recalled to the starting line-up alongside Nicolas Otamendi.

Failing that, Pep may decide to start Pablo Zableta at right-back and bring Bacary Sagna into a more central role. That means there may be some value in backing City to win and BTTS at 2/1.
