Tottenham v West Ham: A low-scorer awaits at the Lane

The Premier League is back with aplomb this weekend, and Saturday’s evening encounter sees Tottenham take on West Ham with both sides very much in need of three points.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have slipped away from the top a little of late thanks to four straight draws, and they could find themselves eight points off the pace come Sunday.

The Hammers have stemmed the tide somewhat in recent weeks – losing only one of six – but they could again fall into the relegation zone this weekend.

But with Harry Kane back to inspire the hosts, this could be a tough afternoon for Slaven Bilic’s men.

And many will fancy Spurs at 1/2 against a Hammers side whose only clean sheets this season have come against Sunderland and an off-form Crystal Palace.

West Ham’s last visit to White Hart Lane ended in a 4-1 drubbing, but despite that and their early-season woes, all the statistics point to a quieter game this time around.

Nine of Spurs’ 11 Premier League games this season have seen under 2.5 goals, while the same goes for the visitors’ last five fixtures.

Add in the fact that Pochettino has seen his side score one or fewer eight times this term, and a low-scoring game looks assured.

Under 2.5 goals can be backed at Evens, while a 1-1 draw at 7/1 could also prove fruitful with West Ham scoring in all but two Premier League games this season.

But if you fancy that Harry Kane’s return will inspire Tottenham to victory, expect it to come to nil.

Four of Tottenham’s five wins this season have seen the opponents fail to score, and only twice in the last six league meetings have both sides netted in this fixture.
