Tizzard’s stars head the Gold Cup market after Cue Card romp

Published:

Just when you thought it wasn’t possible to heap any more adulation upon Cue Card, Colin Tizzard’s star turns it on again to confirm why he’s one of the most popular horses in training.

A third Betfair Chase success at Haydock this afternoon was the latest chapter in what has already been a remarkable career.

And it’s one that’s turned business heads as well as pulled on heart strings with Tizzard’s star now 6/1 for next year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup and 2/1 for the King George on Boxing Day.

In the case of the former contest, only stablemate Thistlecrack is available at a shorter price (7/2) while the 10-year-old is out on his own as favourite for Kempton’s Christmas showpiece.

The defeated Coneygree is next best for the King George at 5/1 and should certainly come on for his first run in a year.

But this, as so many have been, was Cue Card’s day with the Haydock crowd cheering their hero on his return to the winner’s enclosure.

It’s inevitable that questions will follow as to where and how Tizzard intends to campaign both Thistlecrack and Cue Card for the remainder of the season.

Any clash between the two would be hotly-anticpated. But if that’s not forthcoming than at least we know we can look forward to some pretty tasty match-ups between Cue Card and Coneygree.
