Rooney 8/1 to become Man United’s all-time leading scorer this weekend

Published:

Wayne Rooney is now just two goals away from breaking Bobby Charlton’s Manchester United goalscoring record, and we’re offering odds of 8/1 for him to do it against West Ham this weekend.

His goal against Feyenoord in the week put him on 248 in all competitions for the Red Devils, and despite netting just three goals for club and country this season, our traders make it 2/5 for him to reach 250 before Christmas.

He’ll have another chance to do it against the Hammers again next week when United welcome Slaven Bilic’s men to Old Trafford for the second time in four days in the EFL Cup Quarter Final, and it’s 9/2 for the striker to create history on that night.

Were Rooney to grab a goal at the weekend against West Ham, he could set himself up perfectly for the opportunity to break Charlton’s record at Goodison Park, the place where Rooney first burst onto the scene for Everton, way back in 2002.

Despite being linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent weeks, our traders make it just 6/4 for the 31-year-old to one day have a statue outside the Theatre of Dreams.

And with a potential transfer on the cards, we’ve even priced up a special match bet, with 12/1 saying Rooney leaves United before breaking Charlton’s record and 1/33 saying he reaches 250 goals before waving goodbye to Manchester.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Rooney is continuing to set new records, and he may well add another one to his name this weekend.”
